This journey will allow you to see the lakes, vineyards, extinct volcanoes and small medieval hillside towns surrounding Rome.
Our trip begins when we see the Piazza dell’Esquilino and the Baths of Caracalla. We will drive along Appian Way - Romes oldest road, built in 312 B.C. Further along we’ll see Albano, the historical town of Albalonga - a modern village that looks across an ancient volcanic lake. Next on our journey is Castelgandolfo, the summer residence of the Pope.
Next, we’ll see the town of Ariccia, a small village once isolated high in the mountains but now easily reached by a large bridge constructed by Pope Pio IX. We will drive through Genzano, the birth place of Marco Antonio Colonna, the famous General of the battle of Lepanto in 1571. The town of Nemi is world-famous for its strawberries. Further along we’ll see Grottaferrata with its monastery founded on the ruins of an old roman villa.
The town of Frascati is famous for the production of white wine. In addition, a beautiful panoramic view can be enjoyed at the height of 400 meters. We will make a stop in this town to allow time to sample the local wine.
