Destination Overview

Lying gently in the hills of the Lerma Valley, Salta, the capital city of the Homonimous province, is one of the most fertile and pleasant sites blessed by nature. The city sits at an altitude of 1,187 meters above sea level where it is watched over by Mount 20 de Febrero and Mount San Bernardo.

The Hispanic architecture of the city stands out vivdly from other cities across the country. The colonial spirit of the Argentina’s foundation remains in Salta’s homes, streets, hundred-year-old monuments and narrow sidewalks.

Enjoy city sightseeing tours taking you to monumental statues, the San Francisco Church, the Cathedral, historical and anthropological museums, and other cultural landmarks of the city. In the outskirts you’ll find a whole range of exciting excursions to explore the region like "El Tren a las Nubes" (The Train in the Clouds), a train journey that takes you high above the city and through the clouds as it crosses the Andes at 4,220 meters above sea level. Any visit is incomplete without tasting the culinary specialties of the city. "Empanadas," originating in Salta, are small meat filled fried pastries famous worldwide. You are always welcome in Salta!
