Southwest of Colorado Springs lies Canon City and the most notable attraction in this area, the Royal Gorge - which sees more than half a million visitors every year. More than 1,000 feet deep and eight miles long, the Gorge was created over three million years as the Arkansas River slowly etched its way through solid granite to form this massive chasm. In 1929, the world’s highest suspension bridge was built over the gorge and the views from this man-made wonder are sensational.
There also are two hair-raising rides at the Gorge: an aerial tram that rides 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River, and the steepest incline railway in the world that traverses the canyon walls to the bottom.
To get to the Gorge, we will pass the Ft.Carson army base, the NORAD Combat Operations Center for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, and through scenic Red Rock Canyon to Canon City, gateway to the Arkansas Valley and the Royal Gorge.
While visiting the Royal Gorge, your tour package includes a delicious lunch from one of three snack bars conveniently located within the park.
Tour includes all admissions except those for the Skycoaster.
