Join in the celebration of a time honored Louisiana tradition - the
"feux de joie" (fires of joy) along the banks of the Mississippi River.
For many years, the Cajuns have built mammoth structures out of wood and set them ablaze on Christmas Eve to light "Papa Noels" way down to the bayous. Join our Bonfire Adventure as we travel to Destrehan Plantation for a guided tour of this original "indigo" plantation.
You´ll also have the opportunity to see the period craft demonstration of open hearth cooking. Your tour guide entertains you with a history of Plantation Country and serves egg nog as you travel to the banks of the Mississippi. Enjoy some traditional Christmas cuisine at an antebellum plantation before viewing the lighting of the bonfires
Dress is casual, wear comfortable shoes. This is a guided motorcoach tour with some walking required (approximately 4-6 blocks.) Tour departs from the Gray Line “Lighthouse” Ticket Office located at Toulouse Street and the Mississippi River (at the Steamboat Natchez Dock), only 1 block from Jackson Square in the French Quarter. Tour length: 6 hours (includes travel time).
