The Rajyotsava Day or Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated on November 1st every year to commemorate the formation of State of Karnataka. It was in 1956 that all the regions in south India, (whose main language was Kannada) merged into one state, Karnataka. The princely state of Mysore was unified with Kannada speaking zones of Mumbai and Chennai presidencies and Hyderabad. Thus Karnataka was formed which continued to be called Mysore after the princely state.

On Rajyotsava day a colorful procession takes place. The picture of the Goddess Bhuvaneshwari is mounted on a vehicle beautifully decorated. Folk artists perform their art while traveling in the procession. Kannada Flags are hoisted at different strategic locations, and different artists in the fields of drama, dance, classical music and much more are felicitated.
