Take a tour of the history of the military in El Salvador. The Salvadorian Armed Forces were established immediately upon the nation´s independence and has been the principal witness of the development of El Salvador´s history. This tour guides you past important national monuments, narrating history all the while. Begin at the National Palace, an establishment which welcomed powerful figures from the beginning of the independent state.

Tour the Police Castle, a structure originally intended as barracks for the Armed Forces, and then we visit the Military Museum, originally called Cuartel el Zapote ( Barrack El Zapote). This structure is located next to the ex-presidential house where you´ll see military armaments dating from the colonial time up to current, and uniforms used by presidents from the beginning of the century. The Pope´s Vehicle, designed and assembled in El Salvador and according to international reviews one of the best of its era, was used by John Paul the II during both of his visits to the country. Finally, drive through the Boulevard del Ejercito (Army´s Boulevard) to the Aviation Museum to visit the Ilopango Airport. Not only is it a military base, but also houses much of the country's Aviation history.
