Going on the coach tour had the advantage of less walking and travel time than public transport and close to front of queue tickets. We chose the luxury coach option. Great! Included the entrance fees, some nibbles, drinks and a coach with seats one either side of the aisle instead of the usual 2 seats either side! Swivelled and lots of leg room.Whilst our tour guide got us into the front doors of the buildings, the building guides take over in standard size groups. So there is no small group advantage at the buildings themselves. Both tours inside the buildings are short (30-40 mins?) as these are not on the scale of anything like Versailles, St Petersburg, etc. However, they are both very opulent and detailed and the time is sufficient to appreciate the rooms inside. At Neuschwanstein there was time to go to the bridge and spend time in the town below. For the quick and adventurous maybe enough time for the other castle. We didn't risk it. Our guide was able to time out arrival and inside tour of the Linderhof so we got to see the fountain working. Sadly the Grotto at Linderhof was closed for repair. Regardless, there is not enough time allowed for the outside gardens, less alone the Grotto.
