My phone was stolen despite following the guide's instructions, which put a damper on the experience.Otherwise, the guide was knowledgeable, helpful and professional.

I was notified 15 minutes before Greyline was scheduled to pick me up that they decided to cancel the tour due to not having enough participants. I immediately tried to find a travel agency that could take me that day (because it was the last day of my vacation) but it was too short of notice and all of the tours had already left for the day.I had called Greyline to confirm 48 hours in advance (which they recommend doing) and I was lied to and told that enough people had signed up and that the tour would happen. This tour would have been the highlight of my vacation but instead I spent the last day of my vacation waiting around town completely depressed that I would not have the opportunity to experience Chichicastenango on what will likely be my only trip to Guatemala. They apparently did make an unreasonable attempt to contact me the afternoon before the cancellation. They sent an email that I did not receive because I didn't have internet access and they left a voicemail with the hostel- which I obviously did not have access to. They refused to call my cell phone that I had given them as contact information because they did not want to pay for an international call so they decided to ruin my vacation instead. They also decided to charge me for the tour they didn't take me on. They claim they will refund the money but I don't have a reason to believe them after they lied to me and proved themselves to be completely unreliable. This issue was completely avoidable. If they had been honest with me when I called to confirm I could have found another tour company. Instead, they lied so they could keep my money and I missed out on the experience of a lifetime.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Antigua Guatemala. We will take road to The Western Highlands, the region of Guatemala that most travelers think about when daydreaming about a trip to this country. The region is home to quaint and colorful mountain villages, highland lakes, pine forests, and the majority of Guatemala’s indigenous peoples.

Arrive at Chichicastenango Market and begin your walking tour inside the market. It is the center of the town and heart of commercial life for “maxeños” (name given to the natives of Chichicastenango, derivative from Max that means Tomás in Quiché language). The merchants go down every Thursday and Sunday to the central plaza to sell their products in this impressive indigenous market that has changed very little throughout the centuries. Explore the pathways of the market and view the colorful handicrafts and produce offered by the local people of the region.

In Chichicastenango, we will also visit Santo Tomás Church, built in 1540 over the base of an archaeological pre-Hispanic temple. This church is a splendid example of colonial architecture, as the Mayan and Latino influence is mixed throughout both the interior and exterior of the building.

After exploring the market you will enjoy a delicious lunch (not included or you can add a lunch in Optional Extras for additional price.)

Then, continue to the town of Panajachel, which sits on Lake Atitlan. Visit Santander Street and enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Atitlan, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Three spectacular volcanoes, Tolimán, Atitlán and San Pedro form the natural frame of the lake itself. It has a surface of 125 square kilometers and sits 1,560 meters above sea level.

In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing return transfer back to Antigua Guatemala. Take note the order of the itinerary of this tour can vary, sometimes we visit first the Lake Atitlan and then continue to Chichicastenango Market.
