If history is your thing, then you're in luck! Gray Line's new cemetery tour takes you to two of the most historic cemeteries in Savannah - Bonaventure and Laurel Grove. Guided by experienced history buffs, this unique trip allows you to visit the famous sights up close and gain insight into the lives of prominent Savannahians. At Bonaventure, we will visit the graves of Johnny Mercer, Conrad Aiken, Gracie Watson, and more. From Bonaventure, we will travel to Laurel Grove South, which Civil Rights leader WW Law described as, “a historic gem” and that “there is no source that holds as much black history.” Laurel Grove South contains the graves of countless slaves and some of the most noteworthy African American leaders of our time. We then drive to Laurel Grove North where you will see the highest concentration of Victorian-Style graves. We will explore throughout and see the graves of Gettysburg soldiers, notable military generals, as well as Juliette Gordon Low and other famous Savannah natives! Expect to walk between 2 – 3 miles as you uncover Savannah’s buried history.We will leave the Historic District at 1pm
Arrive at Bonaventure for about an hour walking tour
At about 2:30pm we will depart Bonaventure Cemetery for Laurel Grove South for a short tour on the bus. Bonaventure has public restrooms that we will stop at before leaving. Please note that Laurel Grove does not have public restrooms.
At about 3pm we will arrive at Laurel Grove North. This is another walking tour, which will last about an hour.
At about 4:15pm we will depart Laurel Grove North for the Historic District. Your driver will take you back to your starting locations.
