Campeche Day Trip From Merida

10 Hours

Price Breakdown:

We will pick you up in Merida to depart to the small village of Becal, located just in the border of the Yucatan and Campeche states. You will visit a 17th Century colonial church and the Parque de los Sombreros, known for its big hats monument.

You will learn about the process of making Panama hats with Jipi-japa fiber, watching a demonstration by local artisans who have been working inside caves from several generations to preserve the quality of the palm fronds.

From Becal you will go directly to Campeche, an ancient walled city located in the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and once a fortress against the pirate’s attacks during the colonial times. Your first stop will be at Fuerte San Miguel, the biggest ancient fortress of Campeche from the 17th and 18th Century and now converted in a Mayan archaeological museum, displaying beautiful pieces of Calakmul. After that, you will visit the historic district of the city and enjoy a tasty lunch including local dishes. After that, you will enjoy free time to explore on your own, visiting and taking pictures of the beautiful cathedral and the old city gates: Puerta de Mar and Puerta de Tierra, before returning to Merida.
