Chichen Itza is the ancient city of the Itzae Maya. The ceremonial center of this site covers an area of more than 2 miles. As you visit its impressive pyramids, plazas and temples, such as El Castillo, the Ball Court, the Observatory, and the Nunnery just to name just a few, you’ll begin to understand the power of Chichen Itza. For centuries it was a sacred place and today draws thousands of visitors each year. The ruins were recently declared one of the "Seven Modern Wonders of the World!"

A delicious buffet lunch will be served at the famous Mayaland Hotel, where you can also take a refreshing dip in any of the swimming pools, stroll through the tropical gardens, or simply relax in the cool breeze. You can also stroll through our beautiful gardens and watch the birds - the Yucatan boasts more species than the United States and Canada combined.

Then relax in the beautiful Mayaland Hotel, walk the paths in the middle of the jungle with awesome vegetation, or take a refreshing swim.

After breakfast (included) you will be transferred to the Balankanche Caves, located about 4 miles from Chichen Itza. The caves were once an important ceremonial site for the Maya. A light and sound show that relates the history of these caverns has been incorporated into the caves. There are impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations within. Two hundred meters from the entrance is the Blam Throne, a type of altar where it is believed the Mayans celebrated some type of ceremony. Many ceremonial objects can be seen at the outdoor museum by the entrance. After returning to the hotel you can enjoy explore Chichen Itza at your leisure, relax by the pool, or take a horseback riding tour.

For the return transportation to Merida, please be ready at 3:30pm in the hotel lobby.
