With a well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s most spectacular fiords, Milford Sound is located 50 kilometers northwest of Queenstown as the crow flies, but around 300 kilometres by road. This 16-kilometre-long fiord is sited in a magnificent alpine landscape in the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Your deluxe coach will feature a glass roof on most departures to take best advantage of the stunning alpine scenery.
Travel along the shores of Lake Te Anau and along the Milford Road, featuring some of the most stunning scenery in the world - towering snow-capped mountains, magnificent rain forests, and spectacular waterfalls. Photo stops will be made along the way (weather and road conditions permitting). Before descending into Milford Sound, travel through the Homer Tunnel, carved through the solid rock of a mountain.
When you reach Milford Sound, board your boat for a 1 hour 45 minute Milford Sound cruise. You'll see iconic Mitre Peak, which rises from the ocean floor to 1 mile above sea level; and spectacular waterfalls cascading down the sheer rock faces that surround the fiord. Keep an eye out for the dolphins, seals, and penguins that live in this wonderful location.
At the end of your cruise, return to Te Anau by coach, arriving early evening. Optional return flight available at extra cost, weather permitting – please see your driver for more details.
