The Historic Tennessee Tour is a convenient way to visit 2 out-of-the-way historic sites on a single day. This includes the admissions to the indoor tours of each location. There was ample time to go through the house tour and explore the grounds on the Hermitage, but I would have like time to explore the Belle Meade Plantation as well as the mansion tour. The Grayline tour guide/driver was extremely knowlegable, friendly, experienced and professional. He gave commentaries on not only the surrounding area we drove through but also had a very extensive historical knowledge to the location we were heading towards. He made sure everyone knew where to go and checked to make sure everyone arrived back on time. He was very accommodating dropping people off to different locations at the end of the day if it was along the way.The reason I gave this tour a 4/5 star rating is because the place we stopped for lunch, Hermitage House Smorgasbord, was terrible. I would give lunch here a 1/5. This is a small southern food buffet but food was not fresh. Thing are obviously from a can, dehydrated potato mash, and overcooked food. There is no other eatery within walking distance so they have you trapped here. And no, the cost of this terrible lunch is not included in the tour price. Surely there are so many much better places they could have taken us to for a much better sample of southern food!

ITINERARY

Southern plantations, Presidential Estates, and Nashville and Civil War history will all be a part of your day. Known as the "Queen of the Tennessee Plantations", Belle Meade Plantation was the centerpiece of a 5,200 acre plantation. It was world-renowned as a thoroughbred stud farm and nursery in the 19th century. The present 30 acre site features 10 outbuildings, which include an 1832 slave cabin and a colossal carriage house and stables. Your next visit will be the stately manor of Andrew Jackson, The Hermitage. This was the home of our seventh President, and a favorite son of Tennessee. You’ll view the formal gardens, visit the slave quarters, the original 1804 cabin of the estate, and the site where our President and his wife were laid to rest.
