Itinerary
We will travel past the Panama Canal via the famous Trans-Isthmian Railway, built in 1850 to facilitate the travel of the Gold seekers going to San Francisco from the US East coast , on our way to Portobelo. After our journey, we will hop on a bus and learn more about the history and the conquest of Portobelo. Once a destination for huge amounts of gold and riches extracted by the Spanish from the South America, Portobelo was highly coveted by pirates and subject to numerous raids.
Today, the colonial beauty of the fort remains and Portobelo has been declared a Patrimony for Humanity site by UNESCO. We will tour the impressive sights including the Santiago de la Gloria Fort, San Geronimo Fort, La Aduana and San Felipe Church. Lastly we will head to the Gatun Locks before returning home by bus.
