Magdalena Island Penguin Tour By Boat From Punta Arenas

4 hours approx

Price Breakdown:

Passengers must be at 06:30 a.m. in the address: Jose Nogueira 1255, to check-in. After doing the check-in at the Solo Expediciones Office, we will begin this fascinating journey.

Located 32 km northeast of Punta Arenas, in the middle of the Strait of Magellan, Magdalena Island is a must for animal lovers, hosting the greatest colony of penguins in the continental region. This island is a protected area since 1982, year in which it was renamed “Los Pinguinos Natural Moment”. It has an interesting ecosystem, with thousands of penguins which come during the summer in order to reproduce and other kinds of birds, such as cormorants and the Andean seagull.

We will reach the Island after a navigation of about 40 min. Once disembarked, you will have about one hour to walk around and take a picture. Visitors may complete the visit by reaching “The Lighthouse” environmental interpretation center where information about the history of the strait and the ecological richness of the islands is provided.

We are ecstatic to hear that you got your fix of penguins on the Magdalena & Marta tour! We love those cute little birds as well. Sorry to hear about the seasickness, though. We would love to see you again soon!

The water was rough and the boat ride was choppy - I have to admit that was one of my favorite parts. The crew was great - helpful and comforting during the passages. The island is awesome and you meet a lot of new friends... They are loud and smelly - but they love having their photos taken. Once in a lifetime chance - Well worth it
