The Tour
Just outside of Washington DC lies the extraordinary Virginia countryside in Charlottesville, home to the Monticello Estate. This relaxing yet informative tour away from the city will bring you to the home of Thomas Jefferson, President and Founding Father of the United States of America. Dive into the deep history to learn about his extensive education and the pivotal role he had in the Declaration of Independence.

Your first stop will be at the centuries-old Michie Tavern, which will act as a pit stop and offers excellent lunch specials.

Depart from lunch and head to your next destination, Monticello. Walking the grounds of this beautiful estate allows you to explore the final resting place of Jefferson, the small pavilions, and industrial buildings that makeup the extensive property.

The final stop is the perfect ending to this informative tour. The Thomas Jefferson Visitor and Smith Education Center provides you with a deeper understanding of Jefferson’s life, legacies, and the complex time period in which he lived.

We had a great time. The drive was long, but the movies were a good way to pass the time. Lunch was nice at the tavern, a neat place to stop.

Being from out of state and not wanting the hassle of renting a car and navigating traffic we decided to book the tour with Gray Line. The driver was great. He was very courteous, giving information along the way. The bus was comfortable and clean. The best part was seeing the countryside on the way to and from Monticello and not having to worry about traffic. When we got to Montticello he gave us basic information and then turned us over to a tour guide who was equally entertaining and knowledgeable. The entire day was very enjoyable and relaxing.
