Things to do in Frankfurt
Gray Line Frankfurt

Frankfurt’s history dates back to Roman times when it was seen as a strategic location along the Main River. By the 12th century, the town had transformed into an important trading hub. The settlement was given the status of being a free imperial city in 1330, which allowed Frankfurt to govern itself and engage in independent trade. During World War II, Frankfurt suffered extensive damage, and almost 80% of its buildings were destroyed. The post-war period saw significant reconstruction that eventually resulted in the modern skyline visible to visitors today. With hundreds of museums, historical landmarks, authentic German restaurants, and contemporary attractions, Frankfurt offers an adventure for every preference. The Goethe House is the birthplace and childhood home of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the famous German writer and poet known for penning “Faust.” Built in 1748, the childhood home of Goethe has been intentionally preserved to reflect the period in which he lived. 5. Embrace a Sense of Serenity at the Frankfurt Cathedral

Formally designated St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, the Frankfurt Cathedral was constructed in 1285 and officially completed in 1335. It was built in the Gothic style, which is characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses. For centuries, the cathedral was the primary church for the electors of the Holy Roman Empire and the site of many royal coronations. Notable for its impressive tower, the Frankfurt Cathedral stands at about 311 feet tall, which easily makes it one of the highest cathedrals in Germany. Like many historical buildings in Frankfurt, the cathedral experienced damage during World War II, but was faithfully restored in order to balance its historical integrity and functional use as a modern chapel. Research upcoming cultural events held at the cathedral and get a taste of local life while you’re in Frankfurt.
