Why Honolulu?

Honolulu is the very image of paradise. Known for its laid-back atmosphere, perfect weather and uniquely Hawaiian hospitality, Honolulu has for decades been one of the premier destinations for travelers from around the world. With natural landmarks such as Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, Punchbowl Crater, Kapiolani Park and the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Park, it is difficult at times to remind yourself that you are not walking through a postcard. Taking a swim in Ala Moana Park is yet another favorite activity for visitors and locals alike, as its world famous sands are close to dozens of restaurants and shops.

Honolulu sightseeing is not all about palm trees and dormant volcanoes, however. There are several extremely important historical sites that should be a part of any Honolulu tour, such as the National Cemetery of the Pacific and the Bishop Museum, which celebrates the culture and history of the Hawaiian people. One of the most important Honolulu attractions is Pearl Harbor, which continues to be an active military base. Most Pearl Harbor tours will allow you to learn not only about the surprise attack that brought the United States into the Second World War, but also about the numerous battles and great sacrifices that were made to assure an Allied victory in the Pacific theater. Furthermore, it is here that you will find the Pacific Aviation Museum and the USS Missouri Memorial, and from where you can take the Arizona Memorial tour.

Many of the top things to do in Honolulu are about enjoying the moment, soaking up the sun and relaxing on the beach in a more secluded environment. In order to fully appreciate the most picturesque sights that Hawaii has to offer, you may want to step away from the city, and to venture to some of Oahu’s most picturesque destinations, all of which are just a short trip from the Hawaiian capital. There are several reserves and state parks in the interior of the island, such as Sacred Falls and Ahupua'a O, which offer opportunities for hiking and mountain biking through rainforests, as well as miles of remote and rocky beaches once you travel to the north side of the island. Some of the most popular Honolulu excursions include tours of the Dole Plantation and Kualoa Ranch, which was where much of Jurassic Park was filmed. Yet another top destination on Oahu is the Sea Life Park, a marine mammal park and bird sanctuary where you can get up close and personal with monk seals and swim with the dolphins.
