A decade ago Whitney Plantation, circa 1752, opened its doors to the public for the first time in its history as the only plantation museum in Louisiana completely dedicated to the history of slavery. The experience at Whitney is a self-paced audio tour. Visitors to Whitney will gain a unique perspective on the enslaved people who lived and worked here through museum exhibits, memorial artwork, restored historic outbuildings, and hundreds of first-person narratives

  • Guests visiting Whitney using a wheelchair will have access to the gift shop, restrooms, and museum. The plantation grounds are accessible; however, there are uneven gravel paths. Guests would be able to view the slave quarters, but would not have access to enter.
  • Snacks and beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are available for purchase at the swamp. We suggest you bring dry snacks/food to consume on the ride; beverages with tops are also allowed.
  • Swamp tours, like all other tours, operate rain or shine. We will only cancel our tours in the event of extreme weather conditions including lightning strikes and will make every attempt to contact you in the event that a tour is cancelled. Swamp tour boats are covered, making tours in the rain possible and unlikely to be cancelled
