The Summer Palace was the playground of the royal family during the Qing Dynasty, in the last dynasty of imperial China. You will indulge yourself, as they did, in the overwhelming beauty of the imperial gardens, Kunming Lake and lavish palace and living complexes. Stroll under the eaves of the Long Corridor often described as the longest art gallery in the world. Destroyed twice by invading foreign forces, the palace was fully renovated to its present condition by the Empress Dowager Ci Xi(慈禧太后), a task which nearly bankrupt the nation.
