The early bird watching tour in Uxmal was excellent. We were picked up at our hotel in Merida on time (6:30 AM) and driven to Uxmal in a comfortable vehicle with a charming and interesting driver. The birding tour guide Jorge was very knowledgeable and experienced in identifying birds visually and by sound, and lead us to many interesting birds. The breakfast supplied mid tour was excellent, and the final part of the tour through the Uxmal archeological site was also interesting and yielded additional birds. I would highly recommend a birding tour with Jorge.

ITINERARY

Begin your journey with a pickup service from your hotel in Merida before the sunrise and head to Uxmal, known to be a place of legend and myth, situated within a series of hills known as the Puuc, or “mountainous area” in the Maya.

At dawn, your guide will take you to see some of the most exotic birds who live in this mysterious place of the Mayan World. You will be able to find exotic species of birds like the Thicket Tinamu, the Yucatan bobwhite, the Crane Hawk, Yucatecan Woodpecker, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, the Orange Oriole and much more.

After breakfast you will continue this bird watching experience in the Uxmal Archaeological Sites, considered one of the best places to birdwatch in the Yucatan Peninsula. Enjoy exploring this majestic site and watching birds at the same time.

Admire buildings like the colossal Magicians Pyramid, the impressive Governors Palace, intricate Dove’s Temple and grand Nuns Quadrangle. These archaeological structures and buildings located throughout Uxmal are ornamented with geometrical figures and masks of the rain god, Chaac. The rain god was considered by the Maya people as one of the most important of their deities.

At the end of your journey you will be transfered back to your hotel, arriving at Merida around noon approximately.
