We had a great time. The drive was long, but the movies were a good way to pass the time. Lunch was nice at the tavern, a neat place to stop.

Being from out of state and not wanting the hassle of renting a car and navigating traffic we decided to book the tour with Gray Line. The driver was great. He was very courteous, giving information along the way. The bus was comfortable and clean. The best part was seeing the countryside on the way to and from Monticello and not having to worry about traffic. When we got to Montticello he gave us basic information and then turned us over to a tour guide who was equally entertaining and knowledgeable. The entire day was very enjoyable and relaxing.

ITINERARY

Monticello and Thomas Jefferson Country
Just a little outside Washington DC, visitors can take in the extraordinary Virginia countryside on a trip to Monticello. This is a tour for all seasons, as the natural beauty of the area shines through at every time of year. If you’re feeling like taking some time away from the city then this is certainly the tour for you.

What can you see on this Tour?
Travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, where we will continue up the mountainside to Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, President, surveyor, musician, and artist. This relaxing tour is the perfect way to beat the hustle and bustle of city life for the day while learning about the third president and founding father. Thomas Jefferson’s life was exciting and filled with tough decisions, which visitors can learn about visiting his home. He completed extensive education and was one of the most instrumental parties in the Declaration of Independence. His intelligence and charisma are what made him an easy choice as the writer of this important document.

Monticello was handed down to Jefferson by his father, but he designed and created the home that stands there today. He was hugely influenced by European architecture and was one of the first to bring these techniques to America. The name Monticello is Italian and means small mountain, which is a nod to its position at the top of a hill. For our attendees on this tour, there’s no need to climb the small mountain, as our motor coach will take you there in a flash. Much effort has been put into the preservation of the home as a place for education and learning. Expert tour guides keep the home in pristine condition and inform visitors of the most notable moments in the home.

The tour also includes a stop off at the famous Michie Tavern, which is more than two centuries old! We actually stop there first. This historic location still functions as a pit stop for travelers and our visitors can feel free to dine there on the tour. It offers an excellent place to have lunch (be prepared for large portions!!!).

This is a long tour, lasting roughly 11.5 hours, from 8am to 7:30pm. Part of this is the travel through the countryside, though this will pass by quickly with our drivers at the helm. They have licensed driver guides who will narrate the trip and fill you with knowledge as we head to the historic area.

Why should you go on this Tour?
This tour presents visitors with the ideal way to travel outside the city for a day of fun and learning. The chance to see the famous building and learn about what Jefferson’s life and motivations were is just awe-inspiring. Come along with us on this fantastic tour!
